London, 1957. Simon Jackson Payne stands accused of treason, facing the full weight of a nation determined to bury the truths of its colonial past. As the courtroom peels back the layers of his life, a far more dangerous story emerges—one born in the blood-soaked highlands of colonial Kenya during the Mau Mau uprising.

Born to privilege yet marked by his African heritage, Simon has spent his life trapped between two worlds, accepted by neither. Denied the future he earned, he fights bravely in the jungles of Burma during the Second World War, only to return home and find his beloved Kenya consumed by fear, violence, and rebellion. Drawn into a deadly game of espionage, he infiltrates the Mau Mau insurgency, where every choice demands another betrayal, every secret carries a terrible price, and survival itself becomes a crime.

When political winds shift and those in power seek someone to blame, Simon discovers that courage and loyalty are no defense against an empire determined to protect its own reputation. His trial becomes more than a judgment of one man—it is an indictment of a collapsing colonial order built upon prejudice, sacrifice, and lies.

Sweeping from the battlefields of Burma to the coffee plantations of Kenya and the solemn halls of an English courtroom, Into the Lion's Den is an unforgettable historical novel of divided identity, impossible choices, and the devastating human cost of empire. Rich in historical detail and emotional depth, it is a gripping tale of conscience, survival, and the courage to face the truth when history itself is the accuser.
